Abstract

This study explores parents' perspectives on the use of English as the medium of instruction in elementary schools in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan. With the increasing emphasis on English in the education system, understanding parental attitudes is crucial for assessing the effectiveness and acceptance of this linguistic transition. Utilizing a mixed-methods approach, the research gathers quantitative data through structured surveys and qualitative insights from interviews with parents across various socio-economic backgrounds. The findings reveal a range of opinions regarding the advantages and challenges associated with English as a medium of instruction. Many parents acknowledge the importance of English for their children's future opportunities and academic success. However, concerns about the potential negative impact on children's comprehension and engagement, particularly for those from non-English speaking backgrounds, are prevalent. Additionally, the study highlights the need for effective teacher training and resource development to support the implementation of English instruction. The research underscores the importance of considering parental perspectives in educational policy discussions and offers recommendations for enhancing communication and collaboration between schools and families to create a more inclusive and supportive learning environment.
