THE INTERSECTION OF CLIMATE CHANGE AND NATIONAL SECURITY IN PAKISTAN: A DIPLOMATIC PERSPECTIVE

The impacts of climate change carry serious risks to the national security, economic stability and social cohesion of Pakistan. This paper explores the nexus of climate security in Pakistan by focusing on, resource competition and displacement as well regional conflicts fostered through extreme weather. The proliferation of agriculture, water security and human bondage caused by the floods in 2010 & 2022 as well as sustained droughts in Baluchistan and Sindh are case studies for doom. As a result, the research identifies stronger domestic climate legislation and better water management as well as regional collaboration in preventing future conflicts over shared resources. The document also brings in Pakistan's potential role and position regarding climate diplomacy on the global scale, including advocacy for funds by developed countries, technology transfer etc. The study ends with a set of strategic recommendations for including climate resilience in national security planning and international cooperation along the lines that it requires support from global community to provide financial assistance, technology etc.
