This mini review examines drug addiction as a significant social issue in Jammu and Kashmir, highlighting its widespread impact on individuals, families, and communities. The region has faced unique challenges, including prolonged conflict, socio-economic instability, and limited access to mental health resources, all of which contribute to the rising prevalence of substance abuse. This review synthesizes existing literature on the patterns of drug use, the demographic groups most affected, and the social and economic consequences of addiction in Jammu and Kashmir. Key findings indicate that opiates and alcohol are the most commonly abused substances, with a growing trend among younger populations. The review also discusses the effectiveness of current intervention strategies, including community outreach programs, rehabilitation services, and preventive measures. However, significant gaps remain in addressing the stigma associated with addiction and in providing comprehensive support systems for affected individuals. The study underscores the urgent need for targeted policy initiatives and community-based interventions to combat drug addiction and promote recovery in Jammu and Kashmir, ultimately aiming to foster a healthier, more resilient society.
